TACKLE FOOTBALL

Jr. Cats play in the Thurston County Youth Football League (TCYFL), a competitive youth football league consisting of 12 different communities from Chehalis to Steilacoom. In this league we will play five regular season games and three playoff games for a total of eight games. Tackle players compete in three divisions: Minors grades 2nd – 3rd, Junior Varsity grades 4th – 5th and Major Varsity at 6th Grade. Signups start April 1st- July 15th and thanks to our wonderful local sponsors and fundraising efforts, the Jr. Cats franchise is able to discount this year’s sign up fees from $225, to $75 per athlete which includes a personalized Jr. Cats jersey and camp! 

 Gear sizing and check out will be done at the TCYFL facility located at 2625 Reinhardt Ln Suite D, Lacey dates TBD.  Jr Cats football camp will be held at Chehalis Middle School located at 1060 SW 20th St, Chehalis, from 9am12pm, for all Varsity, JV and Minors football players dates TBD.  Awards will be given to outstanding working athletes for the day. Camp t-shirt and lunch will be provided.

 

  Practices will begin in August dates TBD and will be held three days a week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for two hours each night at the Chehalis Middle School. To start the season off, the TYCFL Jamboree will be held on dated TBD. Games are scheduled every Saturday there after, See schedule for dates, times and locations.

 

RULES AND PROCEDURES

All Washington State High School rules apply unless changed by the TCYFL. 

A: Supplemental Rules for JV and Varsity

The board has the option to alter the Supplemental Rules, but all teams or coaches impacted by the changes need to be notified in advance of said changes.

SR-1:

Persons are eligible to play in the TCYFL if they are entering the 2nd to 8th grade in the fall of the season year and are not over 14 year of age on July 31st of the current season year.

ART: 1-1:

1st Grade players must have a signed waiver by the parent(s), or legal guardian(s), and approval from the team’s franchise coach.

SR-2:

Each player must participate in 12 or more practices before playing in a game. All players who attend the required number of practices can participate in the game each week.

SR-3:

Practices may start no earlier than Aug. 1st of the current season and concludes at the close of the current season. Practices shall be no more than two hours in duration each. No more than one TCYFL practice

ART 3-1:

No football, contact practice sessions may occur before three non-contact practice sessions have occurred. No football participant shall participate in a contact practice until said participant has participated in three practices without contact.

ART 3-2:

A minimum of two practices, and a maximum of three practices, of no more than two hours duration each, shall be conducted each week during the entire season for the Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams.

ART 3-3:

A minimum of two practices, and a maximum of five practices, of no more than two hours each, shall be conducted each week during the entire season for the Senior JV and Senior Varsity teams.

ART 3-4:

The Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity coaches may opt to conduct one practice week consisting of four practices of no more than two hours duration each, prior to the beginning of league play.

ART 3-5:

During the week of the Jamboree, three practices consisting of no more than two hours duration each may be conducted by the Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams in addition to the Jamboree.

ART 3-6:

Six days prior to or Six Days Following a scheduled “BYE” game, Minor, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams may schedule a scrimmage and conduct 3 practices not to exceed 2 hours in duration.

Player Weight and Age Restrictions

SR-4:

All weights must be recorded using an official TCYFL scale. The current season’s Jamboree is designated as the official weigh-in place and date. Players’ weight, who weigh more than the ball carrying weight designated for said player’s division, will be recorded by a TCYFL board member. Players who weigh less than or equal to the ball carrying weight designated for said player’s division will be recorded as having been officially weighed, an official weight may be recorded at the discretion of the TCYFL Board. There may be additional weigh-in(s), as deemed necessary via the TCYFL board, during the current season. For division(s) of play without weight limits, the TCYFL Board will determine if an official weight will be recorded for players in said division(s).

Minor Division

ART: 4-1:

Those players entering the 2nd or 3rd grade in the fall of the season year and are not over 8 years of age on April 30th of the current year may participate on a Minors Division Team. Those not meeting the age requirement will play, without exception, at the Major Junior Varsity level. At the request of the parent and Franchise Head Coach, any player not older than 8 year of age on July 31st of the current year may also participate in the Minor Division.

ART: 4-2:

During the week of the Jamboree, three practices consisting of no more than two hours duration each may be conducted by the Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams in addition to the Jamboree.

ART: 4-3:

On a Minor Division Team, players weighing more than 85 pounds, as weighed by an official TCYFL scale, shall align on defense on the line of scrimmage, inside of the free blocking zone*. Refer to SR-6 for Special Teams Limitations.

Major Junior Varsity Division

ART: 4-4:

Those players entering the 4th or 5th grade in the fall of the season year and are not over 10 years of age on April 30th of the current year may participate on the Major Junior Varsity Division Team. Those not meeting the age requirement will play, without exception, at the Major Varsity level. At the request of the parent and Franchise Head Coach, any player not older than 10 year of age on July 31st of the current year may also participate in the Major Junior Varsity Division.

ART: 4-5:

During the week of the Jamboree, three practices consisting of no more than two hours duration each may be conducted by the Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams in addition to the Jamboree.

ART: 4-6:

Players weighing more than 110 pounds, as weighed by an official TCYFL scale, shall align on defense on the line of scrimmage, inside of the free blocking zone*. Refer to SR-6 for Special Teams Limitations. Refer to SR-6 for Special Teams Limitations.

Major Varsity

ART: 4-7:

Those players entering the 6th grade in the fall of the current season year and are not over 12 years of age on July 31st of the current year may participate on a Major Varsity Division Team. Those not meeting the age requirement will play, without exception, at the Senior Junior Varsity level. At the request of the parent and Franchise Head Coach, any player not older than 11 year of age on July 31st of the current year may also participate in the Major Varsity Division.

ART: 4-8:

During the week of the Jamboree, three practices consisting of no more than two hours duration each may be conducted by the Minors, Major JV, and Major Varsity teams in addition to the Jamboree.

ART: 4-9:

Players weighing more than 120 pounds, as weighed by an official TCYFL scale, shall align on defense on the line of scrimmage, inside of the free blocking zone*. Refer to SR-6 for Special Teams Limitations
